Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Better Collective (that’s Abbie May and the team behind the Do It Yourself Better Community) collects, uses and looks after your personal information when you visit this page, join the community or buy anything through it. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we’ve tried to keep this as plain as we can.
What we collect
Information you give us. When you join the community or buy an add-on, you give your name, email address and payment details at checkout. If you message us on Instagram or comment a keyword that triggers a DM, we receive your Instagram username and whatever you send us. If you enquire about working with our agency, we receive the details you put in that form.
Information collected automatically. When you use this page we collect things like the pages you view, the buttons you click, how far you scroll, your device and browser type, your approximate location (based on your IP address), the link or ad that brought you here (including tracking tags in the link) and the date and time of your visit. We do this with cookies and similar tools, including the Meta Pixel, the Meta Conversions API and Google Analytics.
How we use it
- To give you access to the community, process your purchase and manage your membership
- To send you emails about your membership, the community and things we think you’ll find useful (you can unsubscribe at any time)
- To understand which content, links and ads bring people to the page, so we can improve it
- To show you relevant ads on Facebook and Instagram, and to measure whether those ads work
- To reply to your messages and enquiries
Payments
Checkout is handled by Circle, the platform the community runs on, and its payment provider. Your card details go straight to them and we never see or store your full card number.
Who we share it with
We only share your information with the services that help us run the community and this page, and only as much as they need:
- Circle, which hosts the community and processes payments
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram), for advertising and measuring results. When you buy, we send Meta a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address so it can match the purchase to an ad, without receiving your email in readable form
- Google, for website analytics
- Vercel, which hosts this page
- ManyChat, which sends our automated Instagram messages
- Our email and customer management tools, to keep in touch with you
Some of these providers store information outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We use well-known providers that have their own privacy and security commitments, but by using this page you understand your information may be handled overseas. We never sell your personal information.
Cookies and opting out
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the page may not work as well. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on, and manage the ads you see on Facebook and Instagram in your Meta ad preferences.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and we only keep it for as long as we need it for the reasons above or as the law requires.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Just email us and we’ll get back to you within 30 days.
Questions or complaints
If you have a question or a concern about how we’ve handled your information, email abbie@bettercollective.com.au and we’ll work through it with you. If you’re not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date at the top.
